Corning Cable Systems to Highlight Leadership in Data Center Applications at Interop Las Vegas

HICKORY, N.C. Corning Cable Systems LLC, part of Corning Incorporated’s (NYSE:GLW) Telecommunications segment, will feature its innovative data center solutions at Interop Las Vegas, Apr. 27 - May 2.

In its interactive exhibit (booth #2166), Corning Cable Systems’ products will be featured in an environmental representation of a data center network. Through the exhibit, customers will be able to see exactly where Corning’s products fit into their network.

The exhibit will feature Corning Cable Systems’ Plug and Play™ Universal Systems, a preterminated optical fiber cabling system that dramatically streamlines the process of deploying an optical network infrastructure in data center environments. Plug & Play Universal Systems are 100G Ethernet ready, capable of reliably supporting transmission speeds up to 100G with laser-optimized 50 µm multimode (OM3) fiber. The increased demand for bandwidth will require the migration from 10G, to 40G and 100G, evidenced by the IEEE’s recent approval of a task force to develop guidance for 40G and 100G Ethernet data rates. Corning Cable Systems has completed testing to provide assurance that the deployment of its Plug & Play Universal Systems today will support the migration path to 100G Ethernet in accordance with the IEEE 802.3ba Standard.

The data center representation will also feature Corning Cable Systems’ Pretium™ Integrated Solutions, a pre-engineered optical cabling product set that maps directly to SAN director blade ports of major electronics vendors. The U-Space System features customized optical harnesses mapped directly to line cards with port counts ranging from 16 to 48. The high-density trunk cabling and harness solution can eliminate up to 75 percent of the bulk cabling congestion in cabinet vertical managers and in the director backplane, promoting air circulation, increasing deployment velocity and improving the manageability of future moves, adds and changes.

The Zero-U System, designed jointly with Chatsworth Products, Inc. (CPI), uniquely manages optical fiber trunk cables, harnesses and modules within CPI’s TeraFrame™ Cabinets. The system includes an MTP Connector bracket mounted into the cabinet’s vertical manager to facilitate patching instead of consuming valuable rack space as is traditional, ultimately providing more room for data center electronics.

The interactive exhibit will also feature the Plug & Play Universal Systems Integrated Trunk Module, a preterminated 12-fiber MTP Connector trunk assembly integrated into a Plug and Play Systems module. The trunk cable is stored in the module and pulled out and deployed to meet exact length requirements, eliminating the need for precise pre-planning of cable length. The Plug & Play Universal Systems Media Converter Module enables network cabling managers to seamlessly leverage existing copper electronics while taking advantage of the data transport properties of high-density optical systems.
