Supplier and Customer Diversity Program
Anixter is committed to providing our customers with superior products and services that create reliable, resilient systems that sustain businesses and communities. Part of that commitment includes Anixter’s focus on providing diverse-owned partner businesses with visibility, development and access to our customers with supplier diversity goals or programs who can use their products and services.
To that effect, we partner with a wide range of businesses that are owned and operated by minorities, women, LGBTQ, and service-disabled veterans, as well as businesses located in Historically Underutilized Business regions (HUBZone) and Small Disadvantaged Businesses (SDB).
We also embrace a core set of values, and look for diverse-owned partner businesses who share those values and can assist us in fulfilling our mission.
Why Work With Diverse Businesses?
While meeting your diversity spending requirements is one of several reasons to work with diverse-owned businesses, we at Anixter believe it is so much more than that. We believe working with diverse businesses will foster and unleash fresh perspectives, skills and ideas which are crucial in developing our communities. In addition, small and diverse businesses grow our economy and aid in the economic recovery and sustainability of their communities.
Who Qualifies as a "Diverse" Business?
To qualify as a “diverse” business you must be:
- at least 51% owned, operated and managed by U.S. citizens in a government-recognized diversity group (e.g., gender, race, veteran, etc.) or
- in a HUBZone—located in and employs individuals residing in a Historically Underutilized Business Zone (as defined by SBA).
Many state and local governments also have their own registration and certification programs. We encourage you to inquire with your state and local governments into their applicable requirements.
How Anixter Works With Diverse Businesses
Anixter requires that businesses categorized as “diverse” acquire and maintain valid certification(s) from the applicable government agencies. Where multiple designations apply, multiple certifications from multiple agencies may be required.
Anixter sold more than $141 million in products to various strategic U.S. diversity partners in 2017.
Within the U.S., Anixter spent more than $224 million with small and diverse business enterprises in 2017.
AT&T Supplier Diversity Crystal Award
In 2017, Anixter was presented with AT&T’s Supplier Diversity Crystal Award for significantly exceeding their minority-, woman- and disabled-veteran owned business utilization targets. Per AT&T’s recognition letter, Anixter was part of “a very select group of Prime Suppliers who attained and/or exceeded 21.5 percent diversity utilization in 2016.” This is the third time in four years that Anixter has attained this prestigious award.
