GLENVIEW, Ill.—On September 25, 2018, Anixter International Inc. (NYSE: AXE) was named the 2018 PARCEL Forum Shipper of the Year. This award is given to the company that is making game-changing improvements in distribution, logistics and shipping. In 2018, Anixter made great improvements to its operations and logistics processes, including opening a new state-of-the-art distribution facility in Alsip, Illinois. Equipped with an intelligent conveyor system and voice-picking technology, the facility is significantly decreasing Anixter’s processing time.
Anixter received the Shipper of the Year award at the keynote ceremony luncheon of the PARCEL Forum Conference in Chicago, where representatives from Gap Inc.—the 2017 Shipper of the Year—gave a presentation on automation within their warehouse environment. The conference and ceremony were attended by more than 1,200 distribution, logistic and shipping professionals. Bob Beck, senior vice president of operations at Anixter, and Dean Shirkman, global process owner at Anixter, graciously received the award on behalf of Anixter. Also in attendance for Anixter were Orlando McGee, executive vice president of global operations, and Gene Holmes, U.S. director of transportation. “This award is in part recognition that Anixter is on the right path in looking at innovation and technology as a way to improve our ability to service customers,” said McGee. “The long game is to provide our employees with the tools required to increase productivity and speed to customers. The ability for employees to do more with less is where innovation enables Anixter to achieve this. I am extremely proud of the Operations team and humbled by the recognition of our achievement by the PARCEL Forum.”
