¿Can we use any type of memory? Part 1

For example, using a camera to record with a resolution of 720p at 30 frames per second H.264 encoding we can achieve a bandwidth of 36Mbits/s (reading and writing) or 4.5MB / s.

Analyzing the speed chart, we see that we cannot use a Class 4 card that has a minimum write speed of 4MB/s and our application has 4.5MB/s, so we must use at least one card of Class 6, the one is capable of recording 6MB/s. If we used a card Class 4, we will lose some recording, it means that the card would not be able to store all the information with the same transmission speed, and will discard packets, thus losing important images.

Now, with a full memory… in which situations we can apply the Edge Storage? Let's see some classic applications such as decentralized recording, failover and HD recording, but this resource along with the creativity of the designers can fix various problems.

Decentralized Recording

Sometimes we have no way to install a server to record images from the cameras, e.g. monitoring vehicles, having integrated video, because we could have problems with the vibration of a common server. In such cases or in case of any other limitation that impairs a conventional application, we can make recordings of image in-camera, ensuring the protection of this place, and in case of any incident, we could visualize these images directly from the camera without the need for a server to record. We just have to size the memory card to meet recording needs.

Failover

CCTV systems are applied mostly to ensure the protection of persons, property, etc., and in case of incidents, we are recording images to verify the incident or to be used as evidence in any audit, but if at the time of recording we have any network or server failure, we will lose all those images. This is where the application of Edge Storage appears, so in case of a failure at recording, videos are recorded on the memory card and when the system returns to normal, the videos are automatically transferred to the recording system. Many softwares have this CCTV failover solution, using another server to keep Failover at low costs.
