What is connected lighting?
Connected lighting is either power over Ethernet (PoE) lighting or networked controls. PoE lighting delivers power and data via a standard networking cable from an Ethernet switch directly to the network port of the fixture. Connected lighting uses standard fixtures with networked controls to allow for data collection. Installation of these systems is easier than traditional systems and allows for multiple options of contractors to do some or all of the deployment.

Given the flexibility of these systems, you now have the option to use either Ethernet cables or traditional wire and conduit. Whereas traditional lighting relies on the power grid and requires the help of a professional electrician in adherence to extensive conduit rules and regulations, PoE can make it easier for other contractors to install the PoE lighting system.
