Gifts for troops

Heidi Wallner and the Dulles Location Collect Goods for the Soldier's Angels Charity

Heidi Wallner, Global Federal Coordinator, has been involved with Soldier’s Angels for several years and in various projects. In 2013, Heidi decided to get the Dulles, VA office involved.

This project was called the Six Months of Christmas. The goal of the project is to fill more than 60,000 stocking gift bags for deployed troops overseas this holiday season. Each month starting in June, Heidi put out a collection box and described what the organization needed for that month. “It makes it easier for people to just bring in one or two of the requested items each month as opposed to donating a lump sum all at once right before the holidays,” she said.

In June, people donated socks; July was travel-sized hygiene items; August was individually wrapped candy; September was hot chocolate or cider packets; and October was individually packaged snack foods.

Heidi consolidated and shipped the items to North Carolina for The Soldier’s Angels teams to put together individual stocking gift bags of donations from all over the U.S. The stockings were then shipped to deployed troops in time for the holidays.
