Financial Institutions Benefit from Austin Hughes Solutions

The Austin Hughes team have worked extensively with the Financial Sector globally over the last twenty years to provide quality solutions and support
in conjunction with the valued partner network.

Global Supply

The requirements for Power Distribution Units can vary depending on the site location, especially with multi-location institutions where global supply of product is a factor in the decision-making process when selecting the best products / manufacturer. Austin Hughes clients benefit from the global supply capabilities allowing to provide variations such as voltage, input, and socket types to suit the country of installation.

InfraSolution Smart Card Rack Access
Enable data centre operations managers, IT administrators and facilities managers to enhance rack level security and equipment efficiency by using remote rack IP door access with HID or MiFARE swipe card control, temperature & humidity monitoring including integrated monitored and switched rack PDUs.

InfraPower PDUs
Rack mount power distribution and power monitoring solutions that help manage data centre power capacity, reduce downtime and energy costs and improve energy efficiency. To lower energy consumption, make more informed capacity planning decisions and improve operational efficiency.

Financial Features

Austin Hughes offers bespoke products to customer specifications on short lead times, which our clients constantly benefit from and takes away pain points in installations.
For example, a recent financial organisation client was unable to finalise power distribution specifications until a decision had been made as to which AV equipment was to be mounted in the cabinets/racks.

The AV equipment subsequently determined the socket types, quantity and configuration required of the PDUs and the ATS. These PDUs and ATS units were ordered and delivered in a short time frame thus ensuring the existing project timeline was met.

InfraPower W Series Intelligent PDUs also save IP address costs with the use of IP dongles and daisy chain capability; one IP dongle connects up to 16 PDUs. Utilising intelligent PDUs enables the power usage data to be accessed remotely. This data can subsequently be collated and reported using the web based GUI (Graphic User Interface) or integrated into the BMS. Third party software, such as DCIM, integration is possible via SNMP.

Reliability

Within an organisation, multiple departments, such as Facilities, IT, AV, and Security, utilise the intelligent power and/or the data within racks and enclosures. One common objective of all departments is minimising the risk of downtime, any outage can have a severe impact and implications on a business.

"The average cost of a data centre outage has risen from $506,000 in 2010 to $740,000 now, according to some estimates"  – ft.com (2016)

Preventative Measures

There are some simple steps which can be taken to reduce risk, including:

  • Utilising smart card access control can provide an added layer of physical security providing Data Centre Managers reassurance with notifications alerting them to unauthorised access to racks, as well as full audit logs.
  • Sensors integrated with either InfraSolutionX or InfraPower PDUs can enable parameters to be set for sensors such as temperature and humidity in addition to power variations.
  • The addition of IEC accidental release sleeves to reduce unintentional removal of equipment cords from the PDU.
  • Different coloured PDUs at the rack level to differentiate between the primary and redundant
(A & B) feeds into equipment, removing ambiguity for engineers.
  • PDUs have hot swappable digital local touchscreen display’s and field replaceable DC power modules negating the need to power down equipment to switch out components.
