GLENVIEW, Ill.--October 15, 2014-- Anixter International Inc. (NYSE: AXE) has announced the addition of an Industrial Communication and Control (ICC) lab module inside the Infrastructure Solutions LabSM at its global headquarters in Glenview, IL. The new ICC testing capabilities allow Anixter and their customers to evaluate potential communications and control products and technologies specific to industrial environments, including industrial cyber security and redundancy in industrial networks as well as wireless communications for industrial settings.

This world-class research and educational center is where Anixter’s technical experts evaluate, demonstrate and educate, so customers are better equipped to address their infrastructure challenges and meet their current and future applications needs.

“Customers come to us asking, “What am I getting? What are my options?’” explains Rob Cotner, Director of Marketing for Anixter. “Other manufacturers or distributors may be able to tell customers what they need, but in the Lab we can show them, and that allows them to evaluate their options and make better, more informed decisions for their business.”

Anixter’s Lab has a long history of helping customers evaluate their infrastructure choices through practical, hands-on demonstration and education. The Industrial Communication and Control module joins the 4,000 square foot facility’s already established physical security, wireless solutions, data center and enterprise networks testing capabilities.

The Lab is the only facility of its kind to be certified by Underwriters Laboratories, the oldest and largest third-party testing organization, and is where Anixter developed performance requirements for twisted-pair networking infrastructure, called Levels, based on customers’ applications. These performance requirements were adopted by the ANSI/TIA standards bodies and renamed Categories in the ’90s.

Providing an impartial, hands-on experience, Anixter’s Lab welcomes customers who want to:

  • Conduct proof of concepts for systems interoperability
  • Determine optimal cabling solutions for time-sensitive, high-speed data applications
  • Evaluate the latest technologies
  • Test solutions that integrate the logical and physical elements of a building’s data, voice, video and automation systems.

“Simulations in our Lab can check interoperability between two manufacturers and provide a hands-on experience to see how the system performs prior to installation,” says Cotner. “If you are specifying a global solution, we make sure standards-based products are being used, and the products are available where they’re needed, so you can standardize in Austria, Argentina and Australia, for example.”
