Jim McClure should feel very proud of what he accomplished. The Glenview-based business systems manager in the Anixter Learning Group went to extraordinary lengths to help a much beloved charity – and his efforts paid off big.
McClure shaved his head this March to raise funds for the annual St. Baldrick’s head-shaving event, which benefits children’s cancer research. The result? He raised more than $11,800.
This was Jim’s eighth shave for St. Baldrick’s in recent years and by far his most successful fundraising attempt. It was also the largest fundraising to date for the Lake County, IL event.
Through grit and determination and by leveraging the reach and exposure of Anixter's intranet, McClure raised over $5,300 from colleagues located in Glenview and around the continental United States. Anixter Cares then matched the amount raised dollar for dollar.
“Many more colleagues donated this year because Anixter Cares matches funds,” said McClure.
Volunteers like McClure have made it possible for the St. Baldrick's Foundation to award $127 million in grants since 2005 — nearly $25 million in 2013 alone.
