Anixter Adopts Small Georgia Town as Part of America’s Best Communities Competition

Anixter adopts Statesboro, GA to help build their community

Small towns and rural communities across the U.S. are getting an economic boost through the America’s Best Communities competition, and Anixter has joined the effort by adopting the town of Statesboro, GA. We’ll help them as they build their community revitalization strategy and battle 49 other small towns for the distinction of one of America’s Best Communities. At stake: $10 million to be used for economic revitalization.

The competition, sponsored by Frontier Communications, DISH Network, The Weather Channel and CoBank, aims to spark innovation and growth in small towns. As part of the adoption Tom Aldon, Senior Vice President of Anixter’s Integrated Supply business unit, will serve as a strategic advisor to help Statesboro city leaders and planners strategize ways to accelerate the revival of their local economy and improve quality of life. He brings extensive marketing, sales and program management expertise—as well as broad-based knowledge of technologies and infrastructure—to this mentorship role.

Since Statesboro advanced to the quarterfinals earlier this year (one of 50 communities to do so), they have until October to shape and refine their community revitalization plans for the chance to win up to an additional $3 million to bring their ideas to life.

"I'm thrilled to be part of this initiative and to provide guidance and support to assist Statesboro in their efforts to win the America's Best Communities contest,” says Aldon.

As a leading global distributor of network systems, security products, wiring and infrastructure, Anixter works with municipalities and governments all over the world to build or enhance communications, security and industrial infrastructures that create smarter, safer, more efficient and dynamic environments.

America’s Best Communities is a multi-stage, three-year competition that will provide $4 million in seed money and other support to assist communities as they develop new economic growth strategies. The top three communities will receive a total of $6 million in prize money.
