A key for any system solution would be to capture the instructor next to the screen, as in a normal class session. The system also should be adaptable to a range of functional requirements.


Atlona offers the OME-MS42-KIT and HDVS-CAM camera. This combination provides essential AV and USB device interfacing for the camera, a display, and the instructor’s laptop running Zoom or other video conferencing platform, plus USB extension to place the camera sufficiently away from the instructor.

If acquired for the instructor’s home, the system can later be installed permanently in a classroom with a document camera, audio system, and a PC or appliance for lecture capture.

Flexible Design

This design provides a high-quality distance learning presentation environment for instructors forced to teach from home. However, it’s use is not limited to this application. As instructors return to the classroom, there is a high probability that class sizes will be limited, with distance learning and lecture capture still required. The core components of the system can be transferred to the classroom, and when combined with additional inputs as well as swapping the display for a projector, it becomes a complete classroom presentation and distance learning solution.

Distance learning delivered from instructor’s home office

The OME-MS42-KIT serves as the basis for a temporary home office installation, allowing the instructor to connect into a television along with the HDVS-CAM and laptop. A standard Category network cable links the switcher and receiver, allowing the camera to be situated at a sufficient distance to properly capture the instructor and screen when delivering a class lecture.

In a classroom, the OME-MS42 switcher is installed at the instructor’s desk or lectern, while the receiver is placed at the projector. Compared to a conventional webcam, the HDVS-CAM delivers professional-quality video and includes motorized pan, tilt, and zoom controls that can be precisely set for proper framing of the instructor.

The OME-MS42-KIT and HDVS-CAM make this classroom system fully ready for distance learning instruction whenever necessary.
