Four Advantages of Remote Commissioning for Security Cameras
Installing a professional IP video surveillance camera has traditionally been a labor-intensive task, which entails climbing up and down a ladder and manually connecting to the camera. However, with Bosch’s new FLEXIDOME IP starlight 8000i, commissioning can now be done remotely in a matter of minutes, without ever having to touch the camera housing or lens.
Remote commissioning has many advantages, including that it:
1. Decreases setup time by up to 75 percent
Remote commissioning enables setup in just three convenient steps—installing the mounting bracket, connecting the cables and attaching the camera module. Bosch makes it even easier by adding a QR code to the box, which an integrator simply scans with a smart device to walk through the entire commissioning process wirelessly using the Project Assistant app. Alternatively, they can connect to the camera via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Combined, these features can speed installation and setup time by up to 75 percent. Commissioning the cameras without the VMS also eliminates any possible delays from the VMS installation and setup.
Additionally, video analytics is also easy to set up. Simply enter the height of the camera and the rest of the calibration is carried out by the video analytics itself.
2. Reduces labor and equipment costs and minimizes risk of injury
What used to take two to three workers now only takes one, thus reducing labor hours, freeing up time to take on more projects and complete installation faster. Additionally, the simple three-step installation limits time on the ladder or lift equipment, saving money on equipment rentals and minimizing risk of injury to the installer.
3. Simplifies maintenance and adjustments
Typically, when a camera needs to be updated or adjusted, the end user would need to call the integrator out to the site to work on it. With remote commissioning, the integrator can adjust the pan, tilt, roll and zoom (PTRZ) remotely. Should any adjustments be required post-installation—such as for new store layouts or altered high-risk zones—the integrator can do it remotely in the Bosch Project Assistant app, after a secure release process, to save time, effort and resources.
4. Eliminates risk of dust and dirt ingress
An additional advantage is that the risk of dust and dirt ingress is eliminated since the camera module now remains sealed throughout the entire installation and configuration process thanks to its remote wireless commissioning functionality.
