Environmental Product Compliance
WESCO | Anixter’s Environmental Product Compliance team provides product compliance information and expertise on the following directives, regulations and systems:
Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) is a European Union regulation that controls the manufacture and distribution of substances that may be harmful to people, also known as Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs).
RoHS, the Restriction of Hazardous Substances, limits the use of certain substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) above defined thresholds. These substances include lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE).
U.S. CONFLICT MINERALS
The Conflict Minerals Statutory Provision defines the term “conflict mineral” as tin, tantalum, tungsten, gold or derivatives of these minerals, being used to finance conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and surrounding countries. The Dodd-Frank Act requires U.S. publically traded companies to disclose annually any conflict minerals in products they manufacture or contract to manufacture. This disclosure requires an annual supply chain audit. Companies that are out of scope may still be required to conduct these audits to address their customers’ conflict minerals obligations.
INTERNATIONAL MATERIAL DATA SYSTEM (IMDS)
IMDS is an automotive industry tool used to communicate the substance composition of automotive parts through the supply chain and help original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) comply with various international regulations.
PRODUCTION PART APPROVAL PROCESS (PPAP)
PPAP is an automotive industry mechanism for approving parts and production processes. PPAP contains 17 requirements that include control plans, process flow charts and failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA).
